ABOUT

The purpose of the Central Texas Parent Advocacy Group is to provide services to families in the community who are currently involved with or at a high risk of becoming involved with Child Protective Services. The program has two main components Legal Services and Social Services.

Legal Services

Changes to the Texas Family Code require that parents be informed of their right to an attorney during the investigation however, legal services are out of reach for many Central Texas families due to low-income levels and the high cost of attorneys for family law and CPS matters. Central Texas Parent Advocacy group provides legal assistance to parents during the investigation process as well as representation in other legal matters that can often prevent the need for removal of the children by Child Protective Services. The following case types are handled by the Central Texas Parent Advocacy Group.

  • Investigation Defense
  • Establishment of the Parent-Child Relationship
  • Modification of the Parent-Child Relationship
  • Adoption
  • Divorce
  • Protective Orders
  • Assistance to grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other relatives, when children have already been removed by CPS and not placed with family members.

Social Services

It takes a village to raise a child and sometimes families just need help. The Central Texas Parent Advocacy Group works to build relationships with clients and to uncover the needs of the family and connect them to local resources to meet those needs. Services provided include:

  • Clothing, Food, and Other Necessities
  • Therapeutic Services
  • Parenting Services
  • Substance Abuse Treatment
  • Housing Services
  • Employment Services
  • Guidance in filling out applications for governmental assistance
  • Any other identified need that we can find a service provider to establish.
